Forge 1 - Forging Deformation Research

A lot of blacksmithing is done by trade knowledge. For example, we take the billet out of the forge when it's yellow, put it back when it's red. Our forging deformation research team had the goal to explore the actual science behind forging a blade. Such as what temperature does a certain color correspond to? Or does it matter how many times we reheat the blade to hot work it? The final deliverable for this project is a technical report outlining the findings of this research. Connor G. created a comprehensive report answering these questions, including quick reference appendices such as this temperature-color chart for steel.
