Blade 1 - Initial Design

This is super exciting. Our first project update from blade has released, and with it an initial blade design.

Project 1 was spearheaded by William Y., and assisted by Geoffrey L. The first task was to create and settle on the geometric shape, size and dimensions of the blade. It had been previously determined that a machete would be the blade of choice. This was because of its simple geometric options. This provided a solid foundation that would be easily iterated upon for both aesthetic and mechanical purposes. The only geometric constraint that was mandated was that the blade have a sheep’s foot-style point.

With these things in mind Geoffrey L. began modelling of the blade using Solidworks 2020. Geoffrey initially started with a basic and blocky blade and then progressed by sculpting the initial shape. This led him to refine the geometry of the handle and to them further iterate on the guard of the blade. The outcome is a cohesive model that can be used to forge the final product.
